Confidentiality of Minors:
At Imkaan, we recognize the importance of maintaining confidentiality for clients under the age of 18. We adhere to strict confidentiality standards to protect the privacy of minors receiving therapy services.
Parental or Guardian Consent:
Prior to providing therapy services to clients under the age of 18, we require written consent from a parent or legal guardian. This consent acknowledges that the parent or guardian understands and agrees to the terms of therapy, including the limits of confidentiality.
Informed Consent Process:
● The informed consent process involves discussing with the parent or legal guardian the nature of therapy, the goals of treatment, the potential benefits and risks, and the limits of confidentiality.
● Parents or legal guardians will be provided with information about their child's rights to privacy within the therapeutic relationship, as well as any circumstances under which confidentiality may be breached (e.g., risk of harm to self or others, suspected abuse or neglect).
Minor's Right to Confidentiality:
● While therapy sessions with minors may involve discussions about sensitive topics, such as mental health concerns or family issues, the therapist will maintain confidentiality to the extent possible within the bounds of ethical and legal obligations.
● Minors will be informed about the limits of confidentiality and their rights to privacy within the therapeutic relationship.
Exceptions to Confidentiality:
● There are certain circumstances under which confidentiality may need to be breached to ensure the safety and well-being of the minor or others. These circumstances may include instances of suspected abuse or
neglect, imminent risk of harm to self or others, or court-ordered disclosures.
● In such cases, the therapist will make every effort to communicate with the minor and involve them in the decision-making process, to the extent appropriate given their age and maturity level.
Parental Involvement in Therapy:
While respecting the minor's right to privacy, we encourage parental involvement in the therapy process whenever possible and appropriate. This may include periodic updates on progress, collaboration on treatment goals, and involvement in family therapy sessions as needed.
Communication with Parents or Guardians:
Therapists may communicate with parents or legal guardians about their child's progress and treatment plan, while respecting the minor's confidentiality and privacy rights. Any disclosures will be made with the minor's best interests in mind.
Review and Consent Renewal:
By implementing this policy, we aim to ensure that therapy services for minors are conducted with sensitivity, respect for privacy, and adherence to ethical and legal
standards. If you have any questions or concerns about this policy, please don't hesitate
to contact us.
